Dual events in Melbourne promise big crowds

Two coinciding events may mean parking challenges for people headed to downtown Melbourne on Friday evening, but don’t change plans: There are alternate lots for party-goers.

Headed to downtown Melbourne on Friday night? Expect to spend more time than usual looking for a parking spot because of two parties happening at the same time. Here’s what you need to know if you’re headed that way:

• The parking lots in front of and behind The Henegar Center will be off-limits.

The Henegar is having a fundraiser to open its show season and benefit the theater and Candlelighters of Brevard. The event starts at 7 p.m. The Melbourne City Council gave one-time approval to the theater director to close the parking lots nearest the theater to the public, reserving those prime spaces for people attending the Henegar’s event.

• It’s Friday Fest.

The monthly street party takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. New Haven Avenue and some cross streets will close as-usual during the festivities.

• There are options.

Though there will be less available parking, don’t worry. There are other public lots nearby where parking is free. Those include: at City Hall and its parking garage on the east side of the railroad tracks north of Strawbridge Avenue and between New Haven Avenue and Melbourne Avenue and south of Strawbridge Avenue near Meg O’Malleys.
